Terms of Use

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of macdetect.com, including our MAC address / OUI vendor lookup and network tools such as the IP calculator, IP geolocation, WHOIS/DNS lookup, traceroute, port check, and blacklist checker (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using any part of the Service, you confirm that you accept these Terms and agree to comply with them. We may update these Terms from time to time, and continued use of the Service after changes are posted means you accept the revised Terms.

A free service, provided "as is"

The Service is provided free of charge, for informational and diagnostic purposes only. It is offered on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. In particular, tools that probe or query remote hosts — such as the port check, traceroute, and blacklist checker — must only be used against systems, networks, or domains that you own or that you are otherwise authorised to test. You must not use the Service to scan, probe, or interfere with third-party infrastructure without permission, and you must not use it to facilitate abuse, harassment, fraud, or any illegal activity.

You agree not to attempt to circumvent rate limits, disrupt the Service, or gain unauthorized access to any systems connected to it. We reserve the right to block or restrict access from any IP address or account that we reasonably believe is misusing the Service.

Rate limits and API use

To keep the Service available and fair to all users, we apply rate limits to lookups made through the website and through our optional API. If you use the API, you agree to stay within any published or communicated rate limits. We may change, suspend, or discontinue the API, or any part of the Service, at any time without notice.

Accuracy of data

MAC address / OUI vendor data is based on public registries (such as those maintained by the IEEE) and other sources. This underlying data can change and may lag behind the authoritative source at any given time. Similarly, IP geolocation, WHOIS/DNS, and blacklist results depend on third-party data sources that we do not control. We make reasonable efforts to keep information accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any result returned by the Service, and results should not be relied upon for critical, legal, or security decisions without independent verification.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, macdetect.com and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the Service. Your use of the Service is at your own risk.

Intellectual property

The design, branding, text, and software of the Service are owned by macdetect.com or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Underlying reference data (such as vendor/OUI assignments) originates from public sources and remains subject to the rights of its original publishers. You may not copy, scrape at scale, resell, or redistribute the Service or its data in a manner that infringes these rights or that is inconsistent with these Terms.

Third-party links and services

The Service may link to, or rely on, third-party websites and services (for example, geolocation and network-measurement providers). We are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party service, and your use of them is subject to their own terms.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms at any time by updating this page. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "last updated" date below. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by applicable law in the jurisdiction in which the Service operates, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full effect.
